If it had to come down to Money or Love, what would you pick?

If you had the chose between money or love, what would you pick?

I thought this would be an easy question to answer, but in the days of “forget love, get money” and Internet fame, one really has to ask.

Reportedly “Real Housewives of Atlanta” producers and Bravo execs want cast member Kenya Moore’s new husband on the show and her hubby isn’t feeling it. After getting married a recently to restaurateur Marc Daly, they’ve been focused on their relationship and not the cameras. In fact their wedding was a secret that Kenya didn’t want to disclose to the RHOA team. Now they are practically giving her an ultimatum to choose between being the show with her hubby or cut ties altogether.

When I first heard this I was not surprised but I’d encourage Kenya to do the right thing and protect what’s most precious to her right now.

You’re not obligated to share your marriage with the world, you’re obligated to do your part to protect it.

Marriage is between the couple and God, not prying cameras and strangers’ unwarranted opinions. As those who want to be married or currently married, you want to protect your space because the enemy will come in any way possible to steal, kill and destroy your relationship. You have a role to play spiritually, emotionally, mentally and even physically to cover your marriage and spouse.

In Kenya’s situation, to me it’s not worth it if your marriage suffers. We have seen many relationships go down in flames after being on reality TV. It’s really sad to see that play out across region, race and class.

Plus Marc Daly is right; many of the Black/AA men portrayed on reality TV do not paint a positive image of Black men in general. Even if he didn’t do anything scandalous, the contract would state that the producers can do whatever to get the show some attention and ratings. Who wants to invite manufactured drama in their homes for a check?

Well to be honest, a lot of people do exactly that.

But decisions like those are the ones that show your priorities. What do you really want out of life? And what do you want more if you can’t have it all?

Kenya is reportedly choosing love. Plus I highly doubt that TV in this capacity is her “dream job.” Kenya is an accomplished woman and can use what notoriety she’s garnered from her work on the show to start something else for herself.

The book of Hebrews answers today’s question on marriage and being free from the love of money:

“Marriage is to be held in honor among all [that is, regarded as something of great value], and the marriage bed undefiled [by immorality or by any sexual sin]; for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.  Let your character [your moral essence, your inner nature] be free from the love of money [shun greed—be financially ethical], being content with what you have; for He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you[assuredly not]!” So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently say, The Lord is my Helper [in time of need], I will not be afraidWhat will man do to me?” Hebrews 13:4-6 AMP

    You should always choose love.

So surprised that producers think they have that right! I’m with you, love first!

Money is fickle but love can be everlasting. Marriages take work and having cameras rammed into the middle of it doesn’t make it any easier. Great post! #BLMGirl

I would choose to protect my marriage. It isn’t worth it.
