Spring cleaning must do’s for every single with Home stylist Kristyn Ivey

When I met Kristyn Ivey, Founder of For the Love of Tidy, LLC at a women’s brunch this year, I had to talk with her to see if there were any connections between your love life and the state of your room. I live in organized chaos and while it’s time for me to move once again, I’m looking to do some spring cleaning and remove some old things from my life to better embrace the new.

I learned some new things from Kristyn, a KonMari Tidying Consultant & Home Stylist, making moves in the homes of many in Chicago. Check out our interview and more about the method of keeping your life and home tidy and not just clean:

B.L.I.S.S.: In your professional opinion, what are the benefits of spring cleaning?

Kristyn Ivey: Spring is the season for renewal, rebirth, and new beginnings. While it’s common to conduct a deep clean during this time of the year, it’s important to remember to also tidy your home before you clean. Decluttering addresses objects while cleaning addresses dirt.

Both actions are aimed at making a room look clean, but tidying requires moving objects and putting them away while cleaning requires wiping and sweeping away dirt. When you address your clutter first you avoid cleaning things that don’t matter and expose areas of your home that require additional repair or attention during the cleaning phase.

B.L.I.S.S.: What is the connection between a tidy room and one’s relationship with others?

KI: The KonMari Method encourages you to visualize your ideal lifestyle, or the person you’re becoming, before addressing a single piece of clutter in your home. Your ideal lifestyle and ideal living environment provides a foundation for all decision making moving forward.

Putting your past in order during the tidying process makes space for those who matter now and helps you attract new connections that support the person you are becoming.

For example, you will have more time to spend with those who matter in an environment that is comfortable and inspiring. When you’re living in a space that reflects the person you’re becoming you’ve made room for dating, working and building relationships/connections.

B.L.I.S.S.: If someone has a disorganized space would they be “dateable”?

KI: Yes. I don’t believe tidiness has an impact on your ability to be “dateable.” The process does help you live a life of joy surrounded by objects, experiences and people you love. This joy spreads to those around you and helps you attract the relationship you truly want.

B.L.I.S.S.: What are 3 essential items that each single should have in their tidy space at home?

KI: I think each single should have:

1) An interior that represents who they are today and the person they’re becoming
2) Unobstructed space in their home to do what they love and grow
3) A wardrobe of essentials that reflects their unique character, personality and style.

B.L.I.S.S.: Tell more about what you do and why. What would you be available to assist clients with their tidy needs?

KI: I’m a certified KonMari Tidying Consultant. I found freedom through the KonMari Method and now I get to live my ideal life doing what I love by helping others surround themselves with only the things that spark joy and discard everything else, with gratitude.

The KonMari Tidying Lessons that I offer are considered a one-time series of activities where we work together, hands-on to declutter your home by category (clothing, books, paper, miscellaneous, and sentimental items). The experience is called a “Lesson” rather than an “appointment” or “session,” because I’m teaching you an approach and providing tools that educate you on how to manage clutter once and for all.

Once your home is in order, the real transformation begins. No longer concerned with the external conditions, you shift the focus to other areas of your life in need of joy (career, health, finances, relationships, hobbies, spirituality, community). The approach helps you see life through a lens of joy while you live more efficiently, and confidently move towards your true passion, purpose, and happiness.

For the Love of Tidy, LLC founder Kristyn Ivey is the first certified KonMari Tidying Consultant to serve the city of Chicago. Kristyn is dedicated to teaching others how to let go in order to attract and live a truly abundant life. She’s currently taking clients for In-home KonMari Tidying Lessons (5 hours) or Virtual Tidying Lessons (2 hours). She’s also available to discuss the best plan for your unique clutter situation.
