2 empowering songs to get singles through wedding season

This wedding season was a blessed one with back to back nuptials and engagement announcements on my timeline. I personally like weddings and feel like I don’t go to enough! As a single who is waiting for our time to marry one day, and perhaps you feel like this as well, that we’re excited for people to embark on this new chapter of their lives, and we may think about our own personal status, timeline, or current chapter in life.

This is not a woe is me, I’m single during wedding season post. I’m sharing this encouragement with you that in your season of waiting for a godly relationship or marriage to manifest in your life, there are plenty of people who have been where you are, so much so that creative lyrics and beautiful music comes out of those experiences. I’ll share a couple of songs that released this year that I’ve been loving since the first time I heard them:

Single” by Macklyn feat. Nate Emmanuel and Monielle

Macklyn is a new Christian artist out of Virginia, I recently featured him on ArtSoulRadio.com. “Mixing R&B, hip hop and storytelling, his song ‘Single‘ is a testimony of one who finds contentment in the Lord during a time of singleness, amidst the pressures of the world, friends and family.” He sings:

“Turning off the distractions,
Solitude in the masses,
Fix my heart to where my soul is free,

Peace in midst of opinions,
His love holds me,
Resting in this season that he planned for me…”

Listen to more of this neo-soul inspired groove with a message here:

“Gaining Holy affections,
Growing godly connections,
Fighting worry, and joyful still,

Downplayed by all the nay say,
But God is faithful,
Trusting that he knows what’s best me…”

The song features a rap performance by Nate Emmanuel and additional vocals from Monielle. Macklyn also wrote a blog around the topic of singleness and it was refreshing to get a male perspective on how men of God see singleness:

“For me, it wasn’t that being in a relationship or having a goal of marriage was wrong, more than it was about my thinking it was the best thing and the pinnacle of being a believer, when in reality, God wants me to be holy. I remember one time stopping, repenting, and asking the Lord to help me focus on him while I was thinking so strongly about being in a relationship.”

Wait It Out” by Jamie Grace

Next is Jamie Grace with her single “Wait It Out“. After getting married in April this year, she released a new song for the single ladies in mind. Jamie is not shy about sharing lessons from her single season. The lyrics speak for themselves in an upbeat, inspiring track that will stir up the ladies to know their worth and not settle for less because others around you are getting married:
“All the girls with no ring on their finger
Wait it out, ’cause we can, yes, we can…”

“Everybody got that ring by spring, yeah
Graduated M R S degree
Gonna get dressed up, gonna stand by your side
And I’m probably gonna, probably gonna cry
But I stay single, team single
And it ain’t ’cause I don’t wanna mingle…”

Both men and women can feel pressure to settle, feel overlooked, or feel jealous of other people’s blessings. With songs like these by Christian artists who’ve been there, we can truly feel encouraged in a new way, to have an anthem or theme for this season of our lives. It’s beautiful and it’s worth it:

“One day, I’ll be riding with my bae, crowding with my baby
But today I’ll be singing with my girls, singing with my ladies…”

It’s hard not to want to be married when everyone around you or at least have “the ring.” Both of these songs are nice and I never heard them before. Great post!
