Ready to Love reality show explores dating over 30

“Ready to Love” is a show I happened to come across online. The show is brought to us by successful film producer Will Packer (Girls Trip, Think Like a Man) who’s premiering the “Dating Series for the Grown Folk” on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). Check out the trailer here:

What makes this dating reality show different is that all of the participants are over age 30. I think that’s a great idea because this over 30 demographic has a certain mindset and set of experiences that are different than those under 30. There were men and women who have been in long term relationships and even married before.

The premise of the show is to challenge the stigmas of dating at a certain age and in certain demographics like Atlanta, GA, which has an uneven women to men ratio.  The guys and ladies will have the power to choose who they want to stay in the dating pool, which will show us how women and men delegate potential dates differently. These singles are professional and successful in their endeavors and are looking for someone to share their lives with.

The show also brings up stereotypes that people in general carry towards the other in career, age and love. For instance, Chris is 49, a pastor and divorcee. Throughout the premiere episode his potential dates questioned how reserved does the first lady of his church need to be and bringing up other hesitations that one may have about dating/marrying a pastor. I would consider that too, but in order to be ready to love, we have to lay down our hesitations and be open to what God is trying to do with and through us.

Who will benefit in dating, the calm, cool and collective guy or the fearless, assertive woman? Tune in to see how these dynamics and more mix and mingle to find real love in Atlanta.

Besides this age demographic getting it’s own shine on the show, it’s Black Love on TV and hopefully there will be some genuine connections made among the daters on this show. The series is hosted by Thomas “Nephew Tommy” Miles of “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” and joins OWN’s popular Saturday night unscripted programming lineup.
