Using My Free Will as a Single Woman to Travel for the Holidays

What is a single woman to do on major holidays like Christmas or New Year’s? While others are sharing photos in matching pajamas with their boos, this single lady used her free will to travel for a little bit and explore a different way to celebrate the season.

I spent some quality time with my family of faith—I consider them like a godmother/mentor and god sister to me—in Arizona. To be in the southwest versus the snowy Midwest I grew up in? A totally different vibe. Just flying into the state showcased the beautiful canyons, mountains, and desert terrain. More on that a little later.

Getting to my destination was so much easier with what you bring with you, like luggage. As a single, you have the freedom to gift yourself during the holidays, and my gift was long overdue: new luggage and cute luggage covers to keep these pieces clean, since the airports in the USA don’t care for our luggage (at all). It was an affordable set that I hope to travel for short and long trips in the future, in Jesus’ name!

Before the holidays shenanigans started, I gifted my sis a Christmas tree to add to the Hello Kitty Christmas theme that she was hosting for us this year. The last time I had a Christmas tree was a baby one I had in my apartment back in 2015. This Christmas was different, collaborating on a Hello Kitty-themed tree in white with red, pink, and white ornaments and Hello Kitty light garland.

Because I may not ever get to do a Hello Kitty-themed Christmas in a relationship, the ladies put in extra effort to celebrate in a cute way. God mama made some soul food classics on Christmas day, and we all wore coordinating pajamas and fuzzy socks. I applied these fire Hello Kitty nails to wear easily with nail stickers for easy-on, easy-off wear at my convenience. Way healthier for my natural nails than glue!

After Christmas, we hit the road for a trip to Las Vegas. From Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada it took about 4 hours of driving on winding roads on the desert. They weren’t as scary or isolated as I thought, as many people were on the road that weekend to get a head start to New Year’s Eve events in the big city. I was gifted a pair of Meta RayBan Wayfarer sunglasses that I wore for the first time, connecting to my Bluetooth to listen to music and take in the scenery with photo and video features. Here are some shots from my view behind the wheel (hands-free) of the road and Lake Mead.

While in Vegas, us single ladies used our free will to explore, look cute, and see some of the sights during our quick trip. If you get hungry, I’d recommend visiting a hot spot during their happy hour to take advantage of the specials. We went to Tao, a famous lounge and restaurant, for some of their Asian-inspired bites. We saved some cash by hitting up Tao during happy hour (pro tip: I use inKind for 20% back at restaurants like this). We had a rental car, but in some cases, we took a rideshare to get around town. Try Uber with a 50% discount on your first 2 rides (up to $10 each).

I rarely travel during major holidays, so this was a nice change of scenery this year. If you could travel for the holidays, where would you go? Would you go solo, with family or with friends? The next travel holidays are Dr. MLK Jr Day (January 19th) and Valentine’s Day (February 14th), so let’s make something happen!
