3 reasons why Trump’s win may be the wake up call we needed

Y’all, I don’t get up at 5:30 am for anything but Jesus and a plane flight. So when I woke up this early I had issues on my heart that needed to be expressed.

I went to the Internet to confirm the dropping feeling in my stomach, that indeed a man who had more experience as a reality TV personality than a politician is going to be the leader of my country; it is disturbing to say the least.

What do these election results mean for the Black/African American community? As the title suggests, this is indeed the wakeup call we actually needed; here are 3 reasons why:

We got too comfortable with mediocrity.

Y’all, we got waaaay too comfortable with basic policies, being lied to and then voting for that treatment all over again. As Black Americans/African Americans we got too adjusted to the Democrat way, not really preparing for what could possibly happen in this election year. Remember when Bush was wrapping up his “regime” and we were so relieved to have not only a Democrat but a Black candidate in Barack Obama? There will probably never be another feeling like Election Day 2008.

Since then we as a people got accustomed to the idea of having him as President and didn’t really look into Hillary’s ways until 2016 when she truly clenched the Democratic candidacy. Honestly, I’m hesitant to say that Hillary was for us and her past decisions have shown it. Again we were going to settle for less simply because that was the status quo, to vote by default for the Democrat when we didn’t really know what she would have done as President.

Meanwhile, Republicans got fed up with Democratic liberal ways and got prepared to manually push the pendulum back to conservatism, which in our country really stands for is a life that does not respect minorities and women. Was Trump elected in spite of Obama? Perhaps.

Time and time again we have been showing ourselves to be reactionary when we really needed to be proactive and organized. As woke as we want to be, did we see this coming? Let’s put in the work to develop the 2020 candidate now, regardless of party affiliation, that will do right by our community and faith.

It’s finally time to get #BlackWallStreet together.

I watch videos by Dr. Boyce Watkins and he has stated that regardless of who’s president we as the African American community have to stop relying on what the government can do for us and actually come together as a community with a focus on building our community from the inside out.

Dr. Watkins talks about developing our economic power and using it for our good instead of spending it all away on unnecessary things. African Americans have major spending power (over $1 Trillion) and it’s time we use that to create institutions in our communities, buy property, and invest in our youth.

This is not going to be easy but the fact that Trump is going to be our next president is a wakeup call to put our pride down and do the work to make Black American livelihood great.

We have got to do the work and do it collectively, group economics as the word Ujamaa means in the Kwanzaa holiday. We should be celebrating Kwanzaa by the way, it’s December 26-January 1, don’t forget! We have to get back to community building, accountability instead of bashing each other across gender lines and generations. It’s a call to look out for each other regardless of differences because at the end of the day, the mentality that we don’t matter or that we are all the same is going to become more blatant post 2017.

Fighting with faith!

These are indeed the last days. If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, stop playing games and get right with God. This election year is a clear sign that things are about to change and you can’t leave it to chance to put your full trust in human beings, science, or vain philosophies. As Dr. Matthew Stevenson in Chicago preached last night, our President is not our God, and no matter who the President is, God is still in control. It’s a wakeup call to truly rely on Him and relearn what Jesus had done while He was here on earth. Jesus was mocked, hated and persecuted and He said that His followers will face the same thing.

There’s an unfortunate rift in the Body of Christ because of underlying issues of race that haven’t been addressed.

We are going to lose friends because of these election results. White Supremacy is going to feel validated and people are going to show out. This is not the time to just fight, but to use our faith. We as believers know that God is with us, despite what our rulers or government does. When we go through trials and storms we cry out to God with sincere hearts in need for change. In these last days we have to repent and come back to God.

Stop playing like life is sweet and tap into your purpose so the Lord can use you. Put your full trust in the Lord and He will keep you, give you understanding, heal you and make you whole, give you favor in the king’s eyes and with man, and protect you from your enemies. Oh, we will be hated. For instance in my hometown of Chicago, we are facing racism in several of our communities in 2016.

With 2017 moving forward we have to be prepared for the coming prejudice, discrimination and hate from people who choose not to understand us. In spite of this, we have to fight as the Lord would want us to, including to pray for and love our enemies.

The Lord can and will still bless His people even in Donald Trump’s term. We will be successful, we will have relationships that honor Him, we will have favor in our doings because we put our trust in the Lord.

The Bible shows God’s mercy many times for His people when they were ruled by men or in kingdoms not after God. This is a wakeup call spiritually to look to the hills where our help comes from (Psalms 121:1-2).

All in all sometimes it takes truly some bad experiences for us to realize that we need to get it together. We shouldn’t want to live a status quo life of complacency with reliance on just anyone in the Oval Office, but live life abundantly with the Lord on the thrown of our hearts. Please pray for our leaders. This is the call on us as a community to get things right within and do the work necessary to build and grow in spite of the coming opposition.

You hit so many points in this article, so hopefully I comment on all of them. For starters, I agree wholeheartedly with what I believe is the main point of this article, “sometimes it takes the bad to wake up the good.” Unfortunately, it feels like a broken record nowadays, but we gotta do better as black people.
Second, I’m happy you used your platform to intermingle different groups into this situation; women, minorities, black people, AND Christians. Usually I see posts where the authors are speaking on one or the other, but rarely see articles with these groups intermixed. Kudos T! Loved the article and love what you’re doing for the Kingdom and this world. 🙏🏿✌🏿️
