How I’m trusting God in the face of closed doors

By Lynnette Easter

Have you ever had a door open up for you and out of nowhere it slams shut right in your face? Talk about a puzzling experience!

Trying to pinpoint the exact moment when things took an un-expectant turn rests heavy on your mind as you attempt to figure out “what went wrong.” Perplexity ushers in disappointment, while disdain barges in head first, stirring the pot of emotions that leads to a full-blown case of resentment towards your entire situation.

What was supposed to be, is now a no-go.

So, in an attempt to ease your feelings, you downplay the situation by stating: ‘I really didn’t want that opportunity anyway’. Yes you did, stop pretending that you are not affected by the sudden blow that eradicated that fantastic opportunity from your life!

Perhaps you have been experiencing doors abruptly closing on you time and time again.
As you’re left disheartened and clueless, it is upsetting not knowing what you are doing wrong. The inability to determine what your next move should be because nothing makes sense anymore can cause you to stand at this crossroad and wonder:

What is God saying…What is He doing…Why is He saying no to me?

In times of uncertainty, the promise “Be still and know that I am God” comes alive. Oh how effective this promise can be in the midst of your current situation if you adhere to what it says. It’s easy to accept God’s “Yes.” God’s “No”…well that is a different story.

No brings about feelings of rejection.
If you feed the festering negative thought that God snatched your perfect opportunity from your hands you can find yourself searching avenues that will grant you an entryway through the exact door God closed.

Do not try to force open something God said no to, leave it alone!

Stand steadfast by feeding your soul spiritually through prayer and Bible reading. Allow your soul to be nourished and uplifted in Christ by those who genuinely love you. Let them pour life into you as you deal appropriately with your disappointment. God knows exactly what you need; when you need it and how to position the right people in your life to do just that.

Trust God’s yes’s and no’s.
God’s no does not mean that He is withholding something good from you. “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11) God’s no is God’s protection over your life from unseen hurt, heartache and pain attached to what you believe is the most perfect once in a lifetime opportunity.

“And the Lord, He it is that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8

Trust and believe God. He will fulfill His promises to you! “God is not a man that He should lie; neither the son of man that He should repent: hath He said, and shall he not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19

What God has in store for you addresses whatever need you stand in need of; it satisfies your hidden desires and so much more.

“I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” Revelation 3:8

God’s no opens the door for His best, which resides completely in His yes.

    What a phenomenal read!

Thank you for this post. It really resonates with several areas in my life. I sometimes feel that I have been going through a “No” season with, God. But, at the same time, God has been so merciful to me with keeping his promises, performing miracles and granting me unmerited favor in my life. Sometimes, I feel the hardest thing that we can do is be still.
Fighting the urge to control your own life, circumstances and outcomes can be a difficult feat. I ask God constantly to grow my faith and trust in him. I pray that the Holy Spirit leads me and that I am granted wisdom to know when the Holy Spirit is speaking to me or if it is just my own desires.
I am so looking forward to reading much more of your work. And, please feel free to follow me on my website as well. My posts talks about the difficult journey that I have been on and the many pressures that we experience throughout life’s journey.
