#SingleGoals2020: Vanity is helping fellow survivors heal after trauma

As we close out the month of June, we’re going to Waldorf, Maryland to learn more about Vanity D., a mother, mentor, Trauma Recovery Coach, and much more. Vanity shares with us in this interview how she’s not only a survivor, but helping others thrive in their healing as well.

BLISS: Share how you are making the most out of your singleness:

Vanity D.: “While embracing my singleness, I am embracing and spending lots of time with Jesus. I have learned to draw close to Him for guidance, wisdom, understanding, and to know Him better. After surviving child molestation and years of drowning in the harsh cycle of domestic violence, I finally made the decision to take ownership of my life, kicking all abuse to the curb! My experiences led me to finishing up my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I’ve been using this time to complete my internship of counseling children and take the next steps to becoming a doctor.”

“When I’m not into my schoolwork or working on business projects, I embrace spending time with my teenage son. We hang out, cook, and it feels good to me a mother to watch him grow up. It feels amazing being a mother! Lastly, what’s wonderful about the season of singleness is getting to know myself better and spend time with myself. While in this single season, I’ve decided on celibacy and to wait for my God-given gift of a husband. I learned it pleases Jesus to honor Him with our bodies.”

“I’ve been engaging in different activities to see what I’m good at, learning my identity and purpose, what I like or don’t like, what I want to change about myself internally (self-check), and simply embracing Vanity, the woman God created.”

BLISS: What is one piece of advice that you would like to share with other singles?

VD: “To all the singles: embrace your single season. This is one of your special times in life when you have the opportunity to learn who you are and what your purpose is without the distraction of a mate. This is your time to embrace spending time with the Lord, yourself, and friends while doing things you enjoy. Read, travel, cook, hang out, and enjoy life.”

BLISS: What are you currently doing in ministry or for the Kingdom of God?

VD: “My ministry is to carry out God’s work and be a replication of His love. I am here to love, to give hope, to help heal, and to guide. That is my purpose! What I love the most is sharing who God is with others and His word. Whether it’s praying, sharing scripture to give hope, talking with friends and family, or creating videos with teaching, it’s a great way to serve God and I’m here to do whatever He wants me to do.”

BLISS: What project or business do you want to share with the BLISSforSingles audience?

VD: “I was blessed with the opportunity to start a non-profit organization called Delicate Flowers Inc. DF provides mentoring to youth. Through the guidance of God’s word, we provide support, education, and supplies to aid female youth in reaching milestones as they transition into and through womanhood.”

1 Corinthians 16:14 says: ‘Let all your things be done with charity.’ When I’m not mentoring youth, I’m focused on my commitment to Take My Hand, which we are committed to providing survivors support, care, and the tools to work through their traumatic experience. Take My Hand LLC, which was designed to provide trauma recovery coaching for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors, conducts trainings, speaking engagements, and provides resources.

“Together we will work and with the power of God, there is hope and healing waiting for you.”- Vanity

BLISS: Anything else that you’d like to share with us?

VD: “My favorite scripture that keeps me going is Isaiah 41: 13, ‘For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, Fear not, I will help you.’ I pray this scripture penetrates your heart. There is so much joy in knowing our Wonderful Father is holding our right hand, just as a father holds his child’s hand. We don’t have to fear a thing because everywhere we go, He goes. God holding our hand is the reminder that He is ALWAYS with us and never leaving us. He is leading us and protecting us. Rest in His word and rejoice!!”

Amazing work that you’re doing, Vanity, and thank you so much for sharing your #singlegoals with us!
